'Fifty Shades of Grey' Second Movie Release Date News: Two '50 Shades' Sequels Slated
Universal Pictures has announced the release dates of the sequels for the next "Fifty Shades of Grey' films. "Fifty Shades Darker' is scheduled to release on Feb. 10, 2017, and the third movie in the series, "Fifty Shades Freed' will be released on Feb. 9, 2018.
The first edition of the series, "Fifty Shades of Grey' released on Feb. 14, 2015, and earned around $165,994,130 in the U.S., and $568,810,483 worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. The series is an adaptation of the books of the same name by E.L. James.
According to reports, James' husband, Niall Leonard, is tapped to write the screenplay for the upcoming sequel.
"Niall is an outstanding writer in his own right, with multiple established credits, and we are lucky to have him join Team Fifty," producer Michael De Luca said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
According to Vanity Fair, the franchise has released a first image of the sequel from the shots of the sets, of Christian Grey via Access Hollywood.
