'Fifty Shades of Grey' News: Author Disagrees with Director's Course in Upcoming Film

The controversial 'Fifty Shades of Grey' movie is set to be released this Valentine's Day, but it would appear the original author of the novel wasn't particularly satisfied with the final product.

As most fans of the book realize, sex is an overreaching theme and author E.L James didn't believe the element was expressed enough. She and director Sam Taylor-Johnson reportedly butted heads on the topic, which she reported in a interview with Porter Magazine.

"It was difficult, I'm not going to lie," Taylor-Johnson states, "but they were creative fights, and we would resolve them. We would have proper on-set 'barneys,' and I'm not confrontational, but it was about finding a way between the two of us, satisfying her vision of what she'd written as well as my need to visualize this person on-screen, but, you know, we got there."

The film's R rating restricts it from adapting a lot of what goes on in the actual novel, but despite the rating the film's sexual content is to take up one-fifth of the whole movie. However, this figure pales in comparison to what the actual novel contains.

"It's a Hollywood movie, but it's going to be extreme for that world," Taylor-Johnson tells Porter Magazine, "It's going to be pretty sexually explicit because, let's face it, we know what this book is about. It's a sexual journey."

She goes on to say,

"When I decide I want something I go in like an Exocet missile. I just knew I wanted to make this film. I knew how it should be made, needed to be made, and I felt a certain responsibility to make it the right way. I felt it was an incredible story. It's like a dark twisted fairy tale, very romantic and it was interesting how troubling it was, and how romance and the darkness interweaved."

Taylor-Johnson spoke on putting a lot of research into the film and even going as far as hiring male and female dominatrixes to properly explain the culture. They also played a huge role in preparing actors Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson for their respective roles.
