'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie Release Date News: Film Banned in Malaysia

Some interesting news has come about for fans of the bestselling novel by E L James, 'Fifty Shades of Grey.' The movie adaptation by the same name has received an R rating. For fans of the novel who were worried that the film wouldn't be racy enough, the good news is the R rating in the United States was for "strong sexual content," "graphic nudity" and "unusual behavior." If this wasn't enough hype, apparently it's been banned in Malaysia due to its "sadistic" content. The Malaysian Film Censorship Board has banned the film from being shown at any of the cinemas across the country referring to it as more of a "pornography than a movie."

According to The Star, Chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Abdul Hamid added that the sexual "graphicness" featured was not "natural" and thus, not fit for a Malaysian audience. The board's decision to ban this film was due to the content that they deemed to be more sadistic particularly the scenes which depict a woman being tied to a bed and whipped.

Though lots of R rated movies have earned the title due to their nudity, sex scenes or graphic language "unusual behavior" seems to be a new one. Even film historian Leonard Malton in his interview with USA Today said "That's the first time I have heard that term. It's the newest euphemism," he added.

However, fans should still get ready as 'Fifty Shades of Grey' will be hitting theaters on Feb. 13th.
