'Fifty Shades of Grey 2' Cast News: Sam Taylor-Johnson Will Not Direct Sequel Film
Word of the infamous 'Fifty Shades of Grey' film spawning a sequel has excited fans of the franchise, however it has recently been revealed that director Sam Taylor-Johnson won't be involved with the next undertaking.
The reason hasn't been disclosed but Taylor-Johnson did release a formal statement to Deadline stating:
"Directing Fifty Shades Of Grey has been an intense and incredible journey for which I am hugely grateful. I have Universal to thank for that. I forged close and lasting relationships with the cast, producers and crew and most especially, with Dakota and Jamie. While I will not be returning to direct the sequels, I wish nothing but success to whosoever takes on the exciting challenges of films two and three."
It's speculated that the reason may have something to do with the book's author, E.L. James. There were many accounts where it was revealed that the two were in huge disagreements on how the film should have been directed.
For the sequel, James has claimed a lot more creative control on how it is adapted, as she hopes to depict the series in a more darker style, mirroring her novels.
"There is no word on a replacement helmer for Part II of the erotic romance series. Jamie Dornan will be back as billionaire Christian Grey, and Dakota Johnson will return as Anastasia Steele. Each is under option deals for the next films," writes Deadline.
