'Fifty Shades' Darker & Freed Release Date, Cast News: Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson Returning for Sequels
Fans of Fifty Shade of Grey have gotten some great news, as the release dates for the sequels of the film, which are highly anticipated by fans, have finally been confirmed.
The Chairman of Universal Pictures, Donna Langley, made two very big announcements about the movie franchise earlier this week.
One of those was that the second movie in the series, Fifty Shades Darker, will be released on February 10th, 2017. The other is that the final movie of the franchise, Fifty Shades Freed will be released on February 9th, 2018.
Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, who played the leading roles in the first film will be returning to reprise their roles and Sam Taylor-Johnson, the director of the first film, Fifty Shades of Grey, has stepped down from her role as director.
Taylor- Johnson stated that while she was "flattered" to be invited to return to direct the second film, she could not continue to work alongside E.L. James, the author of the series of novels upon which the movies are based.
An image from the movie Fifty Shades Darker, the second installment in the series, was also released, which shows Jamie Dornan's Christian Grey facing a mirror as he adjusts his masquerade mask. Fans who purchase the first movie, Fifty Shades of Grey on DVD , when it is released on June 22, 2015, will get a trailer of the sequel.
This news follows the news that E.L. James will be working together with her husband Niall Leonard in order to write the screenplay of the final movie in the series, Fifty Shades Darker.
Both of the franchise's sequel films aim for a Valentine's Day release, which follow the pattern of the first installment, which released on February 13th this year.
