'Fences' News: Denzel Washington And Viola Davis In First Teaser

The first trailer for "Fences" has just been released, and to say that it is pretty emotional would be an understatement.

Based on a Broadway play by August Wilson, "Fences" tells the story of Troy, a once promising baseball player who turned into a trash collector and has lived a stagnant life for eighteen years. He plays the resentful patriarch who has gone through the worst of racism during his time. At this point in his life, he is afraid to watch his son experience the same racial discrimination that held him back before.

Denzel Washington stars the movie along with Viola Davis, who will play Troy and his long-suffering wife Rose, respectively. They have been struggling with life and racism since the 1950's.

In the trailer, Washington and Davis are shown going toe-to-toe. Troy is obviously depressed that his life did not turn out the way he would have wanted, as he tells his wife that he's standing in the same spot and not progressing.

Davis fires back at him, saying, "I've been standing with you. I give 18 years of my life to stand in the same spot as you!"

The film also centers on Troy's relationship with his son, as well as the valuable life lessons he teaches him as he grows up.

Denzel Washington and Viola Davis' son will be played by Jovan Adepo of "The Leftovers."

"Fences" is set 60 years ago, but its message resonates as strongly today. It is set to open on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2016.
