'Fear the Walking Dead' News: Spin-Off Series Picked Up for a 15-Episode Second Season
Anticipation continues to build for AMC's new spin-off series, 'Fear the Walking Dead,' and in a recent press conference this weekend at the TCA's, producers dropped some more vital details on the show.
The premiere airs later this month, and despite the trailers and promos, there is still a lot that we have yet to learn about series now set in L.A.
Showrunner Dave Erickson first address the term "walkers" on 'Fear the Walking Dead.'
"We don't call them walkers, we're coming up with as much cool West Coat verbage as we can," Erickson said. "We tried to slow burn the story and make it about the anxiety, tension and paranoia that comes with outbreak as much as it's about zombies."
He also goes on to speak on the timeline of the series. While this will be set in the very early stages of the outbreak, he assures us that season one won't catch up with Rick waking up in a coma.
"By the end of season one, we know the world has changed; it is the end of the world as we know it but we aren't at the same place we were when Rick woke up in Georgia," he said. "By time we end season one, there's still a window of time and exploration that we have some real estate left. We come to realize things have changed but there's still the whole world ... [they're] still insulated of the greater truth of what's going on. Part of what we'll explore in season two is that very thing. Will we look for the next sanctuary and battle our way into it? That's not something I'll explore in season two."
"We're experiencing the fall of L.A. through the fall of this family, and you're in the trenches with them," he said. "That's what makes it exciting and what keeps it emotional and grounded. It is a city of 14 million people - there is going to be plenty of encountering of the infected types."
It has also been confirmed that 'Fear the Walking Dead' has been picked up for a second season already with 15 episodes.
The spin-off series plans to air August 23.
