'Fear the Walking Dead' New Cast News: Elizabeth Rodriguez of 'Orange is The New Black' Joins Series
Elizabeth Rodriguez has joined the cast of Fear the Walking Dead as a series regular, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. For those that may not know, the actress, 34-years-old, plays Aleida Diaz on Netflix's original series, Orange is the New Black.
She has also had recurring roles on the Starz drama series, Power and NBC's fantasy show Grimm. Details about her role in Fear the Walking Dead have been kept pretty quiet, but the time at which she has been case implies that her character will be in the first episode, since the pilot's production ended in February.
In September 2014, TV Line disclosed that there would be six main characters in the series, Sean Cabrera, Cody Cabrera, Nancy Tompkins, Nick Tompkins, Ashley Tompkins and Andrea Chapman.
Cliff Curtis has been cast as Sean, Kim Dickens as Nancy, Frank Dillane as Nick and Alycia Debnam as Ashley.
There has been no information yet as far as who will be playing the remaining two characters, Cody and Andrea. It is possible that Rodriguez will be playing Andrea, since she is the only female character left on the list.
The series will be set in Los Angeles and will be a companion to The Walking Dead, starting earlier than the original series, before the zombie apocalypse begins.
Robert Kirkman, the executive producer of the series has stated that it will not be a prequel because it will eventually catch up with The Walking Dead.
He said that while it will start at an earlier time than the original show, it will not end when the original show started.
The series, which has been given a two season order by AMC is set to premiere in late summer and will consist of six episodes.
