‘Far Cry 4’ Removed From Xbox One Digital Store Due to Lingering Bugs?
Microsoft recently clarified the issue of last week's removal of 'Far Cry 4' on digital stores, explaining their digital rights management or DRM policy and said the game was still available for gamers who purchased it.
The past week saw outcries from players of 'Far Cry 4' when they found themselves unable to play the game on the Xbox One. Gamers who tried to access the action adventure first-person shooting game last week found themselves faced with an error message claiming that the game was unplayable. At the same time, many noted that the game was also removed from the Xbox Games Store.
Some claimed that the removal was due to Microsoft's DRM plans for the Xbox One. However, after keeping mum for a while, Microsoft clarified what happened in a statement released via Video Gamer on Friday
In their first statement released during the time 'Far Cry 4' disappeared, they stated, "On Monday, some users were unable to access their digitally purchased base edition of 'Far Cry 4'. Our team has resolved the issue and all access to the title has been restored."
In their more recent statement, a representative from Microsoft took care to comment on their DRM policy in their statement to Video Gamer.
"If customers own the rights to a game, they can visit their download history and initiate a re-download whenever they please - even if the game has been delisted from Xbox Store and is no longer available for purchase," the statement read.
Microsoft did not explicitly state the reason for the players being unable to access the game, though it might possibly be due to a glitch anyway.
Some noted that this policy is similar to the Xbox 360 where it was possible to re-download games that were no longer listed down at the Xbox Marketplace. Usually, the games are taken down when publishers do not have the rights to certain games anymore. This makes the game unavailable for purchase to new gamers, but still available to those who already have the game.
