'Fantastic Four' Reboot Movie News: Fox to Produce X-Men Crossover Film?
If the whole Spider-Man debacle has taught us anything it's that superhero crossovers are the big thing in the industry nowadays, so any struggling comic book franchises should probably follow suit.
In a recent rumor, it seems that Fox plans to do just that with a X-Men/Fantastic Four crossover in the foreseeable future. The precursors that must fall in place for this project to happen is the success of this summer's 'Fantastic Four' reboot, along with next year's 'X-Men: Apocalypse.'
"If Josh Trank's reboot of Fantastic Four can manage not to suck and Fantastic Four 2 in 2018 isn't a complete disaster in the production phase AND assuming X-Men: Apocalypse doesn't nose dive the entire franchise, the current plan is to have 2018's Fox comic book movie be a crossover film that features the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. Presumably they would keep Trank's FF cast, though who would comprise the X-Men is still as unclear as when Channing Tatum will give us some real details about Gambit," writes Latino Review.
While the X-Men franchise has managed to establish itself as a successful movie series, Fantastic Four hasn't had the same luck and there are many that believe that isn't likely to change with this upcoming reboot.
The truth of the matter is that the franchise is a fairly hard sell, however with the help of popular X-Men characters, there's hope that the superhero team can pull itself out of the trenches.
While the projected year for this crossover film is 2018, this still leaves Fox with a lot to think about going forward. If they don't have what it takes to keep up with the growing superhero trends of Marvel and Warner Bros. DC, their franchises could fade into obscurity.
