'Fantastic Four' Reboot News: Fox Removes 2005 Film From iTunes and Amazon
It appears that Fox wants to motivate viewers to forget the previous 'Fantastic Four' films as fast and discreetly as possible, by removing the films from iTunes and Amazon.
In hopes to not "confuse" fans with their upcoming reboot of the franchise with Miles Teller and Kate Mara, the studio feels it best to remove the movie from all streaming services, however by any chance viewers who want to pick up the film, can still, as it is available for purchase on DVD and Blu-Ray.
"A source close to the situation tells The Hollywood Reporter that the older titles have been removed from digital platforms ahead of the release of the new film, so as not to distract from promotion of the rebooted franchise, which is seeking to establish a different tone than the previous releases. The source says the older titles might cause confusion in the marketplace," write THR.
In defense of the studio's decision, the unsuccessful 2005 iteration does hold the exact same name as the reboot set to premiere later this year. It is also reported that this practice isn't uncommon for major studios as they want to make more room for remakes and newer films.
"Released in 2005, Fantastic Four tells the story of a group of astronauts who gain superpowers after cosmic-radiation exposure and take on Dr. Victor von Doom (Julian McMahon). The Tim Story-directed film also starred Ioan Gruffudd as Reed Richards (aka Mr. Fantastic) and Michael Chiklis as Ben Grimm (The Thing). Alba and Evans played siblings Sue and Johnny Storm, aka the Invisible Woman and Human Torch. Mark Frost and Michael France wrote the screenplay," writes THR.
The new 'Fantastic Four' will find itself in a theater near you on August 7.
