'Fantastic Four' Movie Reboot Spoilers: Director Josh Trank Promises Movie Will Be Multi-Power Slug Fest
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, 'Fantastic Four' director Josh Trank shared some details regarding the upcoming film's tone and theme. At the same time, Trank assured fans that the reboot will be a show with plenty of action and special effects.
According to a report in Christian Today, the 'Fantastic Four' reboot is said to be fighting a mounting battle. Since the previous two films of the franchise did not receive much criitical acclaim or perform well at the box office, the director had to take plenty of criticism recently as there are rumors regarding behind-the-scenes issues as well as re-shoots. In addition, there has been some debate regarding casting Michael B. Jordan as the Human Torch.
However, the trailers of 'Fantastic Four' have demonstrated plenty of promise by avoiding the campy ambiance of the previous films. Now, it appears to be a blend science fiction and horror themes put into the comic book genre.
During the interview with EW, Trank said that he deemed this to be a kind of spiritual sequel to his breakthrough film 'Chronicle,' which also took the superhero genre and blended it with other concepts like found-footage filming and a very dark, serious tone.
Trank said, "'Chronicle' was all about the discovery and evolution of those powers. This is like, 'what if it's a couple of years later and it sucks'?" He added, "The audience should expect an epic, massive, huge, multi-power slug fest. This movie is big. A lot of stakes."
If the director is to be believed, 'Fantastic Four' reboot will be entirely different from the superhero films produced by Marvel in which the heroes display their powers. In 'Fantastic Four' the heroes seem to dislike their new abilities and consider them them as a burden as much as they are gifts.
The official synopsis of the film reads, "'Fantastic Four' sees a group of four young adults gain super powers after an experiment to travel to other dimensions goes horribly wrong. Their lives are forever changed and they must learn to master their new abilities to save the Earth from a former friend turned supervillain."
'Fantastic Four' is scheduled to release nationwide on Aug. 7.
