'Fantastic Beasts' New Movie Cast News: Actors Shortlisted for Roles in Upcoming 'Harry Potter' Spin Off Film

Not to long ago, it was revealed that Eddie Redmayne would be the one to lead in the Harry Potter spin-off film, 'Fantastic Beasts,' but there has recently been a bunch more actors announced to shortlist for various other roles.

"Dakota Fanning, Saoirse Ronan, Lili Simmons (Banshee), and Alison Sudol (Transparent, Dig) are in contention for the role of Tina, while supermodel Kate Upton (The Other Woman), Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice), and Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby) are being eyed for the role of Queenie, Tina's older sister. In the book, Newt Scamander is married to a woman named Porpentina, so it seems like this 'Tina' role is that of his eventual wife. The report states that several of these actresses have test deals in place and are expected to read opposite Redmayne over the next week, so I expect we'll be hearing an official casting announcement soon," writes Geek Tyrant.

There were also a number of actors up for the role of Jacob, the main character's rival. Variety's Justin Kroll tweeted:

"Also for the role of Jacob, Newt's rival; hearing HER actor Steve Zisis, Zack Pearlman and Dan Fogler among those testing"

It is also important to note that this shortlist is still fairly early and subject to change at any point.

The script for 'Fantastic Beasts' was written by J.K Rowling, and will take place in roughly 70 years before the events of the original Harry Potter story. The film will follow Newt Scamander, a magizoologist who wrote one of the textbooks that Harry and his friends frequented.

'Fantastic Beasts' hits theaters on November 18, 2016.
