'Fantastic Beasts' Cast News: Katherine Waterston Cast in New 'Harry Potter' Spinoff
Currently, it has been confirmed that Eddie Redmayne will be playing the male lead for J.K Rowling's upcoming Harry Potter spinoff film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Finally, Warner Bros. is getting together the remainder of the cast. Katherine Waterston is the next official cast member.
The actress, known for starring in Inherent Vice has landed the part of one of the female leads opposite Redmayne in the first installment of the new franchise, which is set to become a trilogy.
Waterston will play the character Tina, a pivotal role in the films. Tina is short for Porpentina, and she is a witch, who resides in the United States, quite the deviation from the witches and wizards from the Harry Potter books.
When magizoologist, Newt Scamander, played by Redmayne, stops in New York City in his journey to find and document magical creatures, Porpentina meets him.
Two more important roles in the film have not been cast as yet. These include the role of Queenie, who is Tina's younger sister, and Jacob, one of Scamander's rivals.
The studio has stated that they are looking for more established actors for the film, as opposed to the newcoming actors that they found for the original Harry Potter franchise.
The film will be directed by David Yates, with J. K. Rowling taking her first try at screenwriting.
It is set in New York City, almost seventy years before the events of Harry Potter begin, and it is based on the textbook, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them from Harry Potter, following the book's author as he goes on adventures.
