'Fallout 4' News: No Micro Transactions or Paid Mods for 'Fallout 4'
Valve and Bethesda joined forces to bring a paid modification system to The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, and it was widely regarded as a disaster.
The plan in doing so was to help to pay modders for their hard work, but it ended up in a failure to reward all those modders who participated and upset players.
Now that Bethesda will soon be releasing Fallout 4, some gamers are concerned that the developer will try again for the Steam paid mod system.
However, in a recent interview conducted by the German publication, Spiegel Online, with Fallout 4 director, Todd Howard, Howard suggested that this will not be the case.
Spiegel Online posed several questions regarding Fallout 4, but asked specifically whether or not the paid mod system would be used for the game.
Howard's reply was: "How long was the payment system online? 24 hours? I can only speak for the present time, but currently there are no plans for a payment system."
The interview went to ask him whether or not microtransactions would be used, similar to those used in Assassin's Creed: Unity, as this was also a feature which upset many gamers. Howard simply replied, "No."
At this news, fans of Bethesda games will breathe a huge sigh of relief. It confirms that Fallout 4 will neither have microtransactions nor put a paid mod system in place, at least at its launch.
It is also unlikely that paywalls will be used to force gamers to pay in order to play or progress in the game.
Fallout 4 launches November 10, 2015 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
