EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Everfound Speaks about their Major Label Debut Release, Being a Part of "The Bible" Series, Their Dream Gig with U2 & Their Russian Roots (VIDEO)
Everfound is a Christian pop-rock band based in Denver, Colorado, consisting of 4 Russian brothers (Ruslan, 24, Nikita, 22, Yan, 20, and Illarion, 18). Their family moved to Colorado in 1996 from Russia as political refugees. Since their formation, they have independently released three EPs and one full length independent album, Colorful Alibis and Scandalous Smiles. Their self-titled major-label debut releases on July 16th.
We want to think the guys from Everfound for taking the time to speak with Breathecast before their upcoming release.
BreatheCast: You guys had a song on the hugely popular "The Bible" series companion CD. How did you land your song on there and what did it feel like to be a part of such a breakout series this Spring?
"It was amazing to be a part of "The Bible" series! We have an amazing team, from our record label to our management team; they are due credit for our song making it in there. On a personal note, our great grandfather spent over 20 years in prison just for owning a Bible and for us to be a part of "The Bible" series was crazy."
BreatheCast: How does it feel to finally be releasing your self-titled debut record on Word, July 16th?
"We can't wait for people to hear the new music! Some of the songs are several years old so we are very excited to finally share them with the world!"
BreatheCast: How would you describe your sound for people that haven't heard of you guys and what bands have influenced your sound?
"We love listening to bands like Switchfoot, The Killers and OneRepublic. They inspire us a whole lot so I think our music is somewhat like those guys."
BreatheCast: Tell us the story behind your single, "Never Beyond Repair"?
"We wrote the song after hanging out with a friend who had made some decisions in her life that hurt her and people in her life. She felt like she was too far gone to ever have hope and we realized that we all have felt like that at some point. However, Jesus promises us that He came to give us life and life to the fullest. We believe His forgiveness and love, which he offers to anyone who is willing to believe in him, is the proof that we are never beyond repair. After we wrote the song, we realized we were the ones who needed to hear that message of hope."
BreatheCast: You guys were born in Russia and moved here in the 90's, does living in Russia when you were young influence your music or you as people today?
"Absolutely. We were raised in a very Russian home. My parents helped us save our native language by enforcing that we only speak Russian in the house! Musically, Russian pop and folk music has really influenced us. One of the harder things was to overcome thinking in Russian but writing songs in English."
BreatheCast: If you could collaborate with one Secular Artist and one Christian Artist, who would you choose?
"I think we would choose to work with U2 or The Killers. In the Christian music scene it would be great to work with TobyMac."
BreatheCast: You guys have released 4 albums independently and obviously have worked very hard. What advice do you have to Christian band coming up about work ethic and the getting to the point of being a nationally signed artist?
"Work hard. There was a Russian Olympics coach who once said "when you're not training, somewhere, someone, is. And when you meet them, they will beat you." Now having said that, we do believe in a balanced life. I also love the saying "if you wanna go fast, go alone. If you wanna go far, go with friends." And that's so true about our families. Family and a support group is vital. BUT, the most important thing, by far, is seeking God's will for your heart because then your art will always be encouraging and bring good to people. And what's good will always find its way."
BreatheCast: Do you guys have a favorite scripture as a band or a truth that you guys use a lot? If not, what are some personal favorite verses of yours?
"Most of our songs on the new album are inspired by Romans 8 and Isaiah 61. Romans 8 specifically has been transforming our lives the last year or so."
BreatheCast: What are your touring plans for this Fall 2013?
"We're excited to go on tour with Sanctus Real this fall and there is talk of us being a part if the Winter Jam 2013 line up. We cannot wait to see our fans on tour this fall!"
