‘Equals’ Cast & Plot Speculations: Kristen Stewart & Nicholas Hoult Find Forbidden Love [VIDEO]

There is no reason why a young and beautiful pair like Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult should not fall in love with each other. However, if the recently released video of Drake Doremus film is any indication, such attraction is forbidden in the world of 'Equals.'

Latin Post reports that in the video clip, Hoult's character Silas is seen watching Nia (Stewart), who is obviously experiencing an internal struggle. While Nia walks away, the camera zooms on Silas, showing his expression that suggest he is trying to keep unusual emotions in check.

If anyone thinks that the 40-second clip failed to explain anything important, they need to think again. 'Equals' is set in a futuristic society dubbed "The Collective," where love and feelings are not allowed. Any individual contracting feelings is diagnosed with "Switched-On-Syndrome" or SOS. So when Silas and Nia start discovering emotions and fall for each other, they either need to suppress their love or escape together.

While 'Equals" features two youngest stars of Hollywood, the movie is actually is a mature undertaking for both of them with a hypothesis that is complex in its simplicity. In a recent interview with Deadline, Stewart admitted this, saying, "I was nervous going into the movie because of how simple it is and overtly emotional. I'm 25. I've been through some stuff and I knew it was going to be painful and I knew if I didn't do it right I would have hated myself."

Meanwhile, Hoult talked about being more intimate with his leading lady, saying Doremus would make them face each other and say the same phrase over and over again for over an hour. "It's a really smart thing which makes you forget about what you're doing," Hoult told the publication, adding, "You focus more on the other person."

Variety reports that Stewart talked more regarding the thought process behind making the film during the Venice Film Festival press conference. She told the audience, "One thing we talked about endlessly was: Do we still exist if love doesn't exist, could we live without it? Probably not. If you don't have passions, maybe not for another person, but passion, curiosity: That's what keeps us going."

'Equals' received mixed reviews from critics when the movie was premiered at the Venice Film Festival over the weekend. On the other hand a review from Hollywood Reporter praised the two leads, saying, "That involves far too much dreamy whispering about the miracle of love, but the commitment and intensity of Hoult and Stewart keep you watching even in a film this bereft of subtext."
