Sony has officially announced a sequel to Denzel Washington's most recent box office hit, 'The Equalizer.'

The movie will see the actor returning into his role as the vigilante Robert McCall, but it has been unconfirmed if any other actors are set to reprise their roles.

"Rumors of an "Equalizer" follow-up began months before the R-rated auctioneer opened in September, but it was the film's strong box office results and home entertainment sales that ultimately pulled the trigger on the second installment," writes Variety.

The movie was based on the popular 1980s television show that featured a retired black ops agent that came to the aid of public.

Antoine Fuqua directed the first film, however it isn't confirmed if he'll be back to head this sequel.

'Equalizer 2' hasn't yet been given a premiere date.
