After their relationship hit a dead end in season 2, fans are eager to know what will happen to Cookie and Lucious in the upcoming season of "Empire."

One of the most watched elements of the series is the romance between the head couple of Empire. In the previous season, distance between Lucious and Cookie grew after the former married Anika. Season 3 will see what happens to them following the events that took them apart.

"There's a deep emotional connection, and you felt it when you see the flashbacks. They have children together, they have a bond. To her, the marriage to Anika is beyond symbolic, and she has to walk away," said executive producer Sanaa Hamri.

However, there is a high possibility that Cookie's personal grudge may turn into some sort of a professional revenge because she is still the co-CEO of Empire Entertainment. If that is so, then Lucious may fall back to Jamal when the fight for Empire's soul arises.

As for Cookie, showrunner Ilene Chaiken noted that Cookie is a woman of her words and is the type who will continue fighting for the soul of each of her sons. She said that the protection of her family will be the focus of Cookie in the next season.

"Knowing that Jamal is on the far side slouching towards the light, and Lucious is throwing down his dark gauntlet and trying to claim everyone's soul, Cookie will stand up for him," she revealed.

Cookie is aware of Lucious' situation as far as Tariq and Shyne are concerned. According to reports, her knowledge of Lucious' past will play an important role next season as Lucious continues to try his best to show her that the marriage with Anika was against his will.
