'Empire' Season 2 Cast Rumors: Oprah Winfrey to Appear in Guest Role?
Fox's hit series "Empire" has had some amazing quest appearances in its first season such as Estelle, Naomi Campbell, and Courtney Love. Now that season two is looking to be a big success, co-creator Lee Daniels is looking to recruit legendary talk show host Oprah Winfrey into either making a guest appearance or joining the cast.
According to HNGN, Daniels has approached Winfrey for a role in "Empire." He told various sources that he's "wearing her down."
Winfrey, in response to all this said, "I tell him: 'Lee, it's not enough that you've taken every viewer possible on Wednesday night. Now you want me to leave my own network?'"
Daniel and Winfrey have worked together before. Daniels directed Precious which Winfrey was the executive producer. In 2013, the two joined forces again in Daniels' The Butler and Winfrey starred in it. Both films received praise at many award shows, including the Academy Awards.
Daniels has also told viewers that he is trying to convince Denzel Washington to join the show. If he did, Washington would be making his first TV appearance in 30 years. However, this statement from Daniels is rumored to be very unlikely.
"Empire" dominates the Wednesday night timeslot, despite having a slow go during its first few weeks. According to The Hollywood Reporter, predictions only had the show at a 1.8 rating, but the show produced a 3.8 in early January and "has grown more than 50 percent during the eight weeks since, a greater increase than any other new broadcast series in a decade."
"Empire" is about a family who is trying to keep their hip hop recording studio a float. It stars Terrance Howard, Bryshere Y. Gray, Jussie Smollett, Trai Byers and many others.
"Empire" airs Wednesdays at 8 pm on Fox.
