'Empire' Season 2 Cast News: Mo McRae Joins Series as Gabourey Sidibe’s Love Interest

When the American television drama series 'Empire' returns for its second season to Fox this fall, fans will see a new cast member Mo McRae.

According to a report in Variety, McRae will appear in three episodes of 'Empire' Season 2 and portray the character of J-Poppa, new love interest of Gabourey Sidibe (Becky). Quoting the report, Latin Post says that J-Poppa's character has been described as "a handsome, easygoing guy who is seeing Becky, assistant to Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) at Empire Entertainment. J-Poppa also develops a strong connection with Andre (Trai Byers)."

Previously, McRae has worked with director Lee Daniels in the 2013 film 'The Butler.' He will be working for the second time with Daniels in 'Empire.'

The report in Variety further states that McRae is also a series regular on TNT's 'Murder in the First.' In addion, he appeared in a few episodes of 'Sons of Anarchy.' Other television credits of McRae include 'Ray Donovan,' 'Battle Creek' and Reese Witherspoon's 'Wild.' He will also be seen in an upcoming HBO biopic titled 'All The Way.'

News regarding McRae joining the 'Empire' cast comes close on the heels of reports that Mariah Carey will also be a part of the show's cast.

According to E! News, appearing at Carey's Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony recently, Daniels announced that the five-time Grammy Award-winning singer is set to guest star on 'Empire' Season 2.

The publication further reported that earlier Carey and Daniels teamed up when the singer starred in Daniels' Oscar-winning film 'Precious.'

While there is no information regarding Carey's role on the show, E! News suggests that 'Empire' cast member Jussie Smollett is extremely excited about Carey's presence on the show. Previously, Smollett told the publication that for quite some time now, he had been urging the show runners to have Carey as one the guest stars on 'Empire.'

He told E! News, "I keep saying, and I hope they can make this happen, because she's one of Lee's closest friends, I really want to see Mariah Carey on the show."

Aside from Carey, Chris Rock will also be starring in 'Empire' Season 2. 'Empire' Season 2 is set to premiere on Fox on Sept. 23.
