'Empire' Cast News, Spoilers: Personal Drama Causes Terrence Howard’s Role in 'Empire' to be Cut Back
Empire's Terence Howard's professional life has been affected by his personal drama. According to Page Six, a source has stated that the 46-year-old star of Empire will be seeing less screen time in season 2 due to his recent divorce drama and past allegations of domestic abuse that have come back to haunt him.
It's been hard not to take notice of the turmoil going on around Howard. Recent weeks have seen him battle out a petition to overturn his 2012 divorce settlement with second wife Michelle Ghent.
Howard has also been plagued by allegations of domestic abuse from both his first wife Lori McCommas and his ex-girlfriend May Seng Yang.
The last act of the circus is the secret divorce from his third wife Mira Pak that exploded onto media in early August.
In Empire, Howard is Lucious Lyon, Empire Entertainment's founder and CEO and the head of the Lyon family, famous in the world of R&B and hip-hop music world. In season 1, he was the central character of the music drama.
In season one's finale, however, Lucious is arrested for murder.
Page Six's source shares that this was already part of the storyline, but it also serves as a way to keep Howard on the sidelines of the show as he works out his personal drama.
Fans have been reassured, however, that they will not feel that anything is missing as there is a lot lined up for season 2.
"What they are doing is two-fold," the source said, "They have him locked up so you won't be seeing him in as many scenes. But they are bringing in so many, and I mean so many, guest stars and cameos that the average viewer won't realize it because there is so much going on."
Guest stars slated to appear on Empire will include Mariah Carey, Pitbull, Chris Rock, Ludacris, Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz and Marisa Tomei.
Another change in season 2 will be that Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson)'s storyline will be highlighted, the source goes on to tease.
"She's going to start dropping off from the flashback scenes and then they're going to have her guns blazing," according to the source. There has been no comment from Fox about the shifting of roles in the hit series. Howards' representative has also declined to comment.
