Emmys 2016 Date, Nominations: Jimmy Kimmel to Host 68th Awards Event In September
In line with the upcoming 68th Emmy Awards, iconic television host Jimmy Kimmel is set to host the event.
According to the official Emmys website, the event will be hosted by Kimmel and it will broadcast live from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles in September on the ABC Television Network.
In a statement, ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey said that Kimmel wwas the "consummate showman," adding that with the television host at the helm of the event, the audience could expect to be at the edge of their seats for a "bigger, bolder, and betteer-than-ever" Emmy event.
Kimmel, who is based in New York, also shared his thoughts on hosting the event. In the same interview, the television host said that he was excited to be hosting the Emmys again, adding that he had a feeling that he was going to be great.
On Mar. 7, the host also wrote on Twitter that he was hosting the Emmys on Sept. 18. "Until then, have a great summer," he added. More than 3,000 Twitter fans liked the host's tweet.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 68th Emmys will mark Kimmel's second time hosting the event, as he also served as the show's emcee in 2012. As per the publication, the four broadcast networks share rights to the telecast and they usually rotate hosts when each one got the awards show. They also reportedly give their very own network personalities hosting duties.
In line with the rotation, Kimmel is set to follow "Brook Nine-Nine's" Andy Samberg, who hosted the event for Fox in 2015; "Late Night's" Seth Meyers for NBC in 2014; and "How I Met Your Mother's" Neil Patrick Harris for CBS in 2013, as per Entertainment Weekly.
The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards is set to air live on Sept. 18 on ABC. Nominations are yet to be announced on July. 14.
