Eminem Grammy Awards 2015 News: Rapper Wins 15th Grammy Award - Sixth Best Rap Album Grammy
British newcomer Sam Smith may have emerged from Sunday's Grammy Awards as its biggest winner, taking home four trophies and nearly making a clean sweep for all his nominations, but Eminem was the one setting records on music's biggest night.
The 42-year-old rapper won his record sixth best rap album Grammy for "The Marshall Mathers LP 2," further staking his claim as the most awarded and top-selling rapper in history.
He also took home another golden gramophone for best rap/sung collaboration for "Monster." In his career, Eminem has won a total of 15 Grammy awards.
"The Marshall Mathers LP 2" was Eminem's eighth studio album, and is widely considered as his sequel to 2000's "The Marshall Mathers LP," which still stands as the fastest-selling album by a solo artist in the US, as reported by the AFP.
As highlighted by the same report, the album saw the controversial rapper teaming up with seasoned producer Rick Rubin, who is credited with infusing the rock elements pervading the Grammy award-winning album.
In the single "The Monster," Eminem also teamed up with long-time mentor Dr. Dre, which also features hit-maker Rihanna.
He was not present to accept the award, which was presented before the main televised Grammy gala.
Eminem edged a field that included Australian rapper Iggy Azalea, who had a chance to be the first solo woman to win the best rap album award for her debut "The New Classic."
A recent Eminem song stirred controversy when "a character he plays" threatens to rape Azalea.
"The Marshall Mathers LP 2" was the Detroit native's first album since 2010's "Recovery." His return to his "confessional style" in the album featured collaborations with the fore mentioned Rihanna, along with Sia, and Kendrick Lamar.
For the rap album of the year award, Eminem beat out Azalea, Wiz Khalifa, and Chicago native Common.
