Emile Hirsch News: 'Into The Wild' Star Gets 15 Days in Jail After Pleading Guilty to Assaulting Paramount Exec

Monday saw Emile Hirsch, Into the Wild star, charged and found guilty of misdemeanor assault after an incident at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah earlier this year.

Hirsch allegedly put a chokehold on Paramount studio executive Daniele Bernfeld on Jan. 25 at Park City's Tao Nightclub.

Court documents state that at about 3.15 am that morning, Hirsch approached Bernfeld and grabbed her.

Later, he allegedly put her in a chokehold and pulled her across the table. They landed on the floor, with Hirsch on top of Bernfeld, his hands around her neck.

According to Robert Offer, Hirsch's lawyer, Hirsch was intoxicated past the point of remembering what had happened.

Throughout the party, he had been seen slurring his words and weaving drunkenly around the room, public court documents stated.

"Emile consumed an enormous amount of alcohol on the evening in question and he has no memory of what happened."

As reported by the Associated Press, Hirsch won a plea deal in which he "avoided a maximum stint of five years in prison. Instead, he'll spend 15 days in jail, pay a $4,750 fine and perform 50 hours of community service".

Once the sentence has been served, the charges will be dropped. In a statement read in court on Bernfeld's behalf, she said that Hirsch deserved a harsher punishment. She said that she felt she was on the brink of death at the time.

Hirsch stated to the court that there was "no excuse" for what he did. He says his behavior was "wrong" and "reckless".

He apologized to Bernfeld and checked into rehab soon after the hearing. County attorney Robert Hilder said at the Monday hearing that Hirsch has been sober since the rehab.
