Elvis Presley Latest News: U.S. Postal Service to Release ‘Forever Stamp’ for the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll

Elvis Presley, the king of rock 'n' roll, now joins the elite music icon series with the U.S. Postal Service issuing a "Forever Stamp" in his honor. Presley will be the sixth inductee into the U.S. Postal Service's "Music Icon Series." Other music legends that are already a part of this series include Johnny Cash, Lydia Mendoza, Ray Charles and last year's inductees Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin.

According to IB Times, the ceremonial stamp will be released in the First-Day-of-Issue dedication ceremony in Graceland, Memphis, on Aug. 12 and the event will be a part of this year's Elvis Week celebration. However, a statement from the Postal Service, citing Postmaster General Megan Brennan said that the stamp image will be made available to the customers at a later date.

According to USA Today, currently, the Forever Stamps cost 49 cents.

The statement issued by Brennan said, "Elvis is a natural addition to our Music Icon Series," adding, "His life and talents are an incredible story. Spanning from his humble beginnings in a Tupelo, Mississippi, two-room house to becoming one of the most legendary performance artists of the 20th Century, and Elvis Presley's works continues to resonate with millions the world over."

According to the Rolling Stone magazine, this is the second time that the late legendary singer is being honored by the U.S. Postal Service. In 1993, Elvis Presley featured in a stamp in a watercolor painting by Mark Stutzman.

The legendary singer's official website says that Presley was born in 1935 and his music career started in 1954, when he recorded his first single "That's All Right" with local guitarist Scotty Moore and bass player Bill Black for producer Sam Phillips at Sun Records. "His 1964 film 'Viva Las Vegas' with co-star Ann-Margaret became his highest grossing movie earning revenues worth $5.5 million by 1969," it adds.
