'Elder Scrolls Online' PS4, Xbox One Release Date: Official Launch News in 2015, Game's New User Interface?

A new press release from the developers behind 'Elder Scrolls Online' brought about some exciting information for gamers looking to play the game on their next-gen consoles. While the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game are "playable and fun right now, ... there's still some work to do before we can set an official launch date."

For those who may be unfamiliar with the game, the description from Ecumenical News reads, "The Elder Scrolls Online is set in the Age of Heroes, roughly 1,000 years before the events in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and the coming of the Dragonborn, and just before the rise of Tiber Septim, the first Emperor of Tamriel."

However, the post from the 'Elder Scrolls Online' developers stresses that the console version of the game will not be the same as the one already released on the PC and Mac.

The post reads, "It's also important to note that the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of ESO are not just ports of the PC/Mac game."

Xbox One and PS4 gamers can expect a custom user interface that's specifically designed to work well with a controller. Beyond that, the developers mentioned that they kept the "living room play experience in mind" as they put together the next-gen versions of ESO.

Stepping into some reviews for the PC and Mac versions of 'Elder Scrolls Online', top gaming critics seem to giving off mixed signals.

Taking for example one review from Gamespot, the review said that the game had some sort of "stiffness" to it and gave it a fair six out of ten.

Additionally, the review went on to mention some of the downsides of the game and how it could get somewhat frustrating and monotonous at times.

The review article read, "Just getting out of Cyrodiil and back to the relative peace of player versus environment can be time consuming, and the fact that you can't limit a group search to your own campaign is a drag."

However, other critics said that this MMO caters to a specific type of RPG player. Instead of attracting casual video game players, 'Elder Scrolls Online' attracts those that are into hardcore gaming.

Last but not least, IGN, a leader in video game news and reviews gave the game a 7.8 (which by their standards translates to good) out of 10.

Falling back to the matter at hand, the Xbox One and PS4 versions of 'Elder Scrolls Online', the developers said, "Expect to see lots of news about our console versions in early 2015."
