Earl Bynum Announces First Studio Gospel Album 'This Song Is For You' Releasing On Oct. 5
Gospel artist and singer-songwriter Earl Bynum has announced his upcoming solo album, This Song Is For You, releasing on Oct. 5 on LRAE, HBK, and Tyscot Records. The new ten-track project is Bynum's third solo project and his first since his 2009 Open My Heart.
Showcasing a mix of flavors, ranging from the choir-charged radio single, "Bless the Lord Oh My Soul (The Remix)," and the congregational-styled sing-along, "Only Unto You," to the urban contemporary flavored tunes, "Call Him," and "Brighter Day," This Song Is For You is Bynum's first gospel studio recording.
"It was different for me trying to do it," Bynum recalls. "I'm a live concert type of performer, so the studio ain't hard but it also ain't easy because I feed off of my audience and there's no audience in the studio with me. I had to change my mindset to approach these songs and it helped take me out of the choir backdrop and let me live in a new space."
A native of Franklin, Va., Bynum has been singing all his life, organizing and conducting a variety of choirs since his teen years. Over the years, he has perhaps been closest associated with the Stellar Gospel Music Award-winning The Mount Unity Choir in Chesapeake, Va.
The choir's debut album, Bishop K.W. Brown Presents Earl Bynum and The Mount Unity Choir Live, peaked at No. 8 on Billboard's Top Gospel Albums sales chart in 2013. The group also propelled the radio single, "Bless the Name of Jesus" to the Top 30 on Billboard's Gospel Airplay chart and won the Best Church Choir category during comedian Steve Harvey's erstwhile Neighborhood Awards in 2013.
Bynum currently works as Minister of Worship at The Mount, a mega-church congregation in Chesapeake, Va. He also hosts the weekend radio program, "On Stage with Earl Bynum," which is syndicated by the Musical Soul Food Network.
