Duggars '19 Kids and Counting' News: Christmas Update: How the Duggars Celebrate the Holiday Season
For the Duggar family of TLC's '19 Kids and Counting', Christmas is a massive celebration, but it is also a lesson on giving back. When asked how the Duggars celebrate Christmas, Michelle Duggar wrote on the show's blog, "Our goal was to bring out the real meaning of Christmas."
Usually, Jim Bob and Michelle lead their children on mission trips over the holidays. The mission trips teach Jim Bob and Michelle's children about giving to others, Michelle says. "I've often heard them say, 'Mom, I just don't even think I want to go Christmas shopping. I don't want anything. I have no needs.'"
While the Duggars emphasize the spirit of Christmas, that does not stop them from throwing a "big birthday party for Jesus." In December, the Duggar home is filled with the sweet smell of freshly baked goods, and decorated with banners and gentle white lights.
A large nativity scene reflects the story of baby Jesus in a manger, Joseph, Mary, three wise men, and shepherd figurines. This scene in their home is actually placed on the counter to pay tribute on the day Christ was born.
On a side note, the Duggars have recently released their 2014 Christmas Card with a grand total of 28 family members! The card barely fits all of the family members, but it is truly a beautiful photo with all 28 members smiling graciously, even the little ones.
Recently, '19 Kids and Counting' aired a Christmas special, this past Tuesday, December 16th, in which the loving family wishes Jesus "Happy Birthday."
As a final note, Michelle Duggar wants to remind her blog readers that while Christmas memories are important, their desire is to "give our children an even bigger vision for the world."
