'DuckTales' Reboot News: Series Returns to Television via Disney XD in 2017

Disney XD is rebooting the beloved Disney animated series DuckTales. The company plans to revisit characters Scrooge McDuck and his mischievous grandnephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie while introducing Donald Duck as a series regular.

Disney XD's Senior Vice President, Programming and General Manager Marc Buhaj said in accordance with the announcement, "DuckTales has a special place in Disney's TV animation history, it drew its inspiration from Disney Legend Carl Barks' comic books and through its storytelling and artistic showmanship, set an enduring standard for animated entertainment that connects with both kids and adults. Our new series will bring that same energy and adventurous spirit to a new generation."

According to Disney's official Oh My Disney blog, other characters from the series will also come back including, Duckworth, Gyro Gearloose, Launchpad McQuack, Flintheart Glomgold, Magica DeSpell & Poe, Ma Beagle and the Beagle Boys, Mrs. Beakley, and Webbigail Vanderquack.

According to Deadline, the comedy aired from 1897-1990 as part of The Disney Afternoon daily syndicated cartoon block and won an Emmy during its time on the air. The show was said to be a breakthrough in animation history as it showed a cartoon could educate and entertain both kids and adults. The show followed the ducks around the world for various treasures for Scrooge's vast collection of riches.

The series has had some notice in the previous year with the remaster edition of the DuckTales video game that came out last year on the Wii U. The original DuckTales series is available on the WATCH Disney Channel app.

The reboot of DuckTales is set to air in 2017 on Disney XD.
