Drunk Jesus St Patrick's Day T-Shirt Sold at Urban Outfitters Has People Calling for a Boycott

Urban Outfitters celebrated St. Patrick's Day by releasing their latest shirt: The Drunk Jesus. The company is under fire for selling a t-shirt that shows a picture depicting Jesus Christ holding up a beer mug with the caption "Jesus, I'm Drunk."

Urban Outfitters is no stranger to scandal. The clothing retail chain has drawn many critics over the years. Its T-shirts have featured catchphrases and images that upset Jews, African Americans, and Native Americans, alike.

It is safe to say you can now add Christians to that list. Many believers found the T-shirt "disgusting" and "offensive." Some even calling for a boycott. The description for the $24 shirt reads: "Throw some back with the holy man himself in this epic tee!"

People on social media expressed their disappointment on the shirt that was released in celebration on St. Patrick's Day.

"Offensive on so many levels...no one would dare make such derogatory comments/t-shirts about any other religious," one irate comment read.

Another said, "I see a boycott coming. This is very OFFENSIVE! I buy my nephew clothes from there. Won't be going back."

While this message from an Irish commenter wrote, "makes me sad."

Many were not only mortified with the disrespectful portrayal of "Jesus" and also by the promotion of alcohol. Urban outfitters largest customer pool is the 18-to-24 crowd, as well as the under-18 age group.

One new report said, "Promoting heavy recreational drinking is irresponsible to say the least."

The company previously came under fire for selling T-shirts with slogans that read, "I Vote for Vodka," "Misery Loves Alcohol," "I Drink You're Cute," and "USA Drinking Team."
