'Downton Abbey' Season 6 Update: Actor Jim Carter Shares Series Finale Spoilers

Just a few days before the premiere of 'Downton Abbey' Season 6 in the U.K. actor Jim Carter, who portrays the character of the butler Carson in the series, has revealed some major spoilers for the final season of the British drama series.

Christian Today reports that recently the 67-year-old actor told Event magazine, "We don't finish on a climactic note."

A long way from the  2012 finale of 'Downton Abbey' which saw the death of Matthew Crawley, Carter told the magazine during the interview that the end of the series will be low key, which will, however, be an suitable end to the much loved show.

Carter further said that the very last scene is set on New Year's Eve in 1925, and fans will see the servants gathered in the castle's great hall for a party. The scene described by the actor may possibly the staff's last night at the castle together, since earlier it was reported that in Season 6, the Crawleys will be reducing the number of staff and closing up the castle owing to the economic crisis.

The actor revealed, "All the servants are gathered together in the hall. It is New Year's Eve, it's candlelit and there are Christmas decorations left over. It is dark and we are quietly sing Auld Lang Syne."

Carter further o hinted that the finale will see Carson tying the knot with Mrs. Hughes (Phyllis Logan). "One of the last lines is when I say, 'It's going to be a different life.' Mrs. Hughes says, 'Yes, but together we'll manage," Carter said.

According to Carter, one thing that the fans can be sure of is that everybody will be in tears after watching the 'Downton Abbedy' Season 6 finale. He acknowledged that while he was filming the final scene, he surprised himself by bursting into tears. The actor further said that after they had wrapped up the scene, he addressed the crew and he was "completely choked up."

"I think people will be very pleased," Carter said about the finale, adding, "They'll need two hankies."

The sixth and final Season of 'Downton Abbey' airs on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 9 p.m. on the UK's ITV1 and will premiere in the U.S. on Jan. 3, 2016 on PBS.
