'Downton Abbey' Season 6 News: Show Creator Planning Movie, Musical, or Ballet Based on TV Series

While the British period drama 'Downton Abbey' is currently filming its sixth and last season, show creator Julian Fellowes has yet to be finished with his characters. He is said to be considering a film version of the television series, In fact, Fellowes is also open to the idea of a musical version or even a ballet.

According to a report in Latin Post, in a recent interview with Variety Fellowes said, "It may be reborn as a movie or a play or a musical or a ballet. Who knows if we've seen the last of it? But we do know we've seen the last of the television series. This will be the ending."

Meanwhile, the 'Downton Abbey' series finale was announced some months back and currently filming is underway in the U.K. It is one of the most anticipated finales on TV. However, audiences in the U.S. will have to wait until 2016 to see the last season of 'Downton Abbey,' but U.K. audiences will be seeing it at the end of this year.

For Fellowes, this is quite annoying and he said in the interview, "If it was left to me, I would show them on the same day [in both countries]. The BBC with 'Doctor Who' showed that was possible. The possibility of spoilers in the eight hours' difference is obviously considerably less than three months' difference. I think it's hard for people to resist the spoilers, and I wish they didn't have to."

'Downton Abbey,' which is being aired since 2010, has won EMMY awards in addition to Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild awards. This is one of the acclaimed shows on TV and, at present, it is available on Amazon Prime.

'Downton Abbey' stars Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Penelope Wilton, Maggie Smith, Jessica Brown Findlay, Dan Stevens, and Lily James. Season 6 of the series is set to air in 2016 on PBS.
