‘Downton Abbey’ Season 6 Cast, Spoilers: Thomas Barrow Leaves, Characters’ Lives Set To Change In Christmas Special?

With the "Downton Abbey" season 6 finale coming to an end, the show is set to bid farewell to its viewers and the characters seems to be saying goodbye to each other, too.

The final episode of "Downton Abbey" season 6 is also its Christmas special. In a promo video, the series' finale suggests that Thomas Barrow (Rob James-Collier) is set to leave his career at Downton, leaving everyone into melancholy. While George (Oliver/Zac Barker) pleads him not to go, Barrow remains stiff with his decision and says "I arrived as a boy. I leave as a man."

While "Downton Abbey" season 6 finale will present Christmas, the episode will also cover the New Year's Eve, according to International Business Times. Along with the entry of the following year also shows people's acceptance of their lives in the modern era. A prime example is Mr. Carson (Jim Carter) who tells Robert (Hugh Bonneville) that the world was a different place from the way it had been.

"Downton Abbey" season 6 will also see Dowager Countess (Maggie Smith) tell Isobel (Penelope Wilton) the reason she loves New Year, along with the idea that she is expecting some changes. In addition, the Crawley's will "deck the halls" for the last time, drink champagne from the estate's finest crystal, and reflect on how time is changing, according to Vanity Fair.

Along with Barrow's departure is the return of some characters like Tom Branson (Allen Leech) and Lady Rose (Lily James), with the latter kissing her husband at the conclusion of the "Downton Abbey" season 6 promo video.

"Downton Abbey" season 6 is set to premiere in the United States on PBS on Jan. 3, 2016.
