Fans of 'Downtown Abbey', the British period drama television series on ITV, can expect a lot more than just George Clooney this Christmas, as Hugh Bonneville, who plays Robert Crawley in the popular drama series, has recently teased that the Christmas special episode will be "heartwarming" and "nice."

The special episode is scheduled to be aired on Dec. 25 in the U.K. On that note, U.S fans will most likely have to wait until January when PBS will air the series, reports Christian Today,

Meanwhile, Hello Magazine has published a number of details regarding the upcoming Christmas special episode, which has a runtime of two hours.

The website says that the episode will focus on the Crawley family's excursion to Brancaster Castle to attend a shooting party hosted by Lord Sinderby (James Faulkner). The family enjoys the shooting trip, but the holiday mood is shattered when the Sinderby's butler Stowell (Alun Armstrong) scares everyone by saying that he will reveal a scandalous secret.

According to the synopsis of the special episode, in Downton, the estate's servants face a different problem when Bates (Brendan Coyle) does everything possible to clear his wife Anna (Joanne Frogatt) name to ensure that she is not imprisoned.

On the other hand, viewers will see Phyllis Baxter (Raquel Cassidy) and Joseph Molesley (Kevin Doyle) getting busy hatching a sneaky plan. Another sub-plot shows Mrs. Elsie Hughes (Phyllis Logan) and butler Carson (Jim Carter) planning to start a joint business venture.

In 'Downtown Abbey' Season 5 Christmas special episode, fans will also see a new character. Princess Irina, the wife of Prince Kuragin (Rade Sherbedgia), will debut on the series. The character will be played by BAFTA Award nominee Jane Lapotaire.

Meanwhile, George Clooney too is coming to Downtown. He recently made an appearance in a teaser video meant for the charity "Text Santa." In this skit fans will see Clooney reportedly appearing as a guest in a wedding scene, specially aimed at raising funds.
