'Dota 2' The International Prize Pool News: Tournament Breaks eSports Records; Tournament Dates, Compendium Rewards

Gamers and spectators everywhere are getting ready for one of the biggest annual eSports championship tournaments, Dota 2 - The International, as some of the details about it have recently been released. Beyond that, the upcoming tournament has officially tapped the largest prize pool for any single event in eSports history.

As of this writing, the prize pool sits at $$11,424,006, but still has plenty of time to increase before the final matches even begin. For those that may not know, 'Dota 2' players can earn rewards by completing challenges, making predictions and following the event after purchasing the latest Compendium. All sales contribute to the grand prize pool, as 25% of all purchases get thrown into the pot by Valve.

Stepping back to last year's tournament, the prize pool set the record as the highest pot in eSports history with a whopping $10,931,103. Interestingly enough, the second and third placeholders are also championship tournaments for 'Dota 2'.

Moving into the 2015 Compendium and its rewards, players can choose between two types on the Dota2 Store. Those who pick the basic version for $9.99 will receive less than those who buy the $26.99 one, however, both Compendiums offer stretch goals that unlock as the prize pool grows.

Unfortunately, some gamers have been commenting that the 2015 Compendium isn't different enough from last year's version. Beyond that, others are complaining about a relatively new in-game cosmetic that is arguably a distraction.

Some 'Dota 2' players are of the view that an expansion of the pets that follow a hero around serve as too much of a distraction in an already super intense and highly competitive game.

Last but not least, what fans of The International 2015 are really looking to find out, is when they can tune into a live stream broadcast of the matches. While the International 2015 invitational tournament is already sold out ticket wise, it will be held at KeyArena in Seattle from August 3rd through August 8th and will be broadcast via live stream.
