'Dota 2' News: New Roster Rules, Brackets Spills Ahead Of Tournament
Along with "Defense of the Ancients (DOTA) 2's" International 2016 team brackets, Valve has also unveiled new roster rules for the e-sports game tournament.
Team Secret's Matthew Bailey, a "DOTA enthusiast," learned some details on the title's International 2016 event. On Aug. 1, he tweeted a photo containing what fans and gamers could expect from the event. He noted that there would be two majors, instead of three, plus a TI. According to Bailey, the first major is set to take place before the end of 2016 while the second major is scheduled in the spring of 2017.
Bailey also revealed information on the roster locks, which aim to benefit the players. The roster changes are bound to happen in two phases, which are drop and join, and substitutions are allowed for post-qualifiers.
As per Bleach Report, Valve's tricky roster rules began in June, a time when the Team Secret and Evil Geniuses exchanged players following the March deadline for TI6. Consequently, the teams were left with no chance but to gain a spot in the tournament via open qualifiers, blending with choice and criticisms from fans and other players.
In line with the game brackets, it is revealed that the Group Stage features two groups of eight teams and team members play in a best of two, as per PC Games. The top four teams per group proceed to the Main Event's Upper Bracket while the bottom four goes into the Lower Bracket of the Main Event.
As per the publication, Group A consists of TnC Pro, LGD Gaming, Evil Geniuses, Natus Vincere, Wings, Alliance, OG, and Wildcard Team # 2 while Group B is comprised of Team Liquid, Fnatic, Digital Chaos, MVP Phoenix, Vici Reborn, Secret, and Newbee.
"DOTA 2" is Valve's free-to-play multiplayer online battle video game. The broadcast takes place Aug. 3 to Aug. 5.
