'Doctor Who' Season 11 Cast, Spoilers: Peter Capaldi To Remain As Doctor Number 12?

In line with showrunner Steven Moffat's revelation that he would be leaving "Doctor Who" at the end of the season 10, it has been revealed that lead actor Peter Capaldi has been asked to remain in the show.

Capaldi, who plays the role of the titular doctor, revealed that BBC had asked him to stay in the show. In his interview with Radio Times, he said that he had been asked to stay on; however, it was such a long time before he had to make that decision.

According to Capaldi, Moffat had been definitely wonderful that he loved working with him. The actor added that Chris was a fantastic guy and he thought that he was a hugely skilled guy. He also mentioned that he did not know where the show was heading, but he still had to make up his mind and he had not done it yet.

For Capaldi, he felt that it was very challenging to say goodbye, just like Moffat would tell others.

If Capaldi chose to stay and continue playing his role as the twelfth doctor in "Doctor Who," it is assumed that season 11 would be his fourth season, which raises him to be the longest running doctor since the show's debut way back in 2005.

As per Collider, Capaldi was revealed as the twelfth doctor in August 2013. The actor reportedly teased before the "Doctor Who" Christmas special that 2015 could be his final year, adding that though he loved the world of the series, he did want to do other things.

Capaldi could leave the show and work with Moffat again in the long run. This suggests that fans could see a new cast ensemble of "Doctor Who" in the future.
