'Doctor Strange' Cast Rumors, News: Rachel McAdams Offered Role As Female Lead
Recent news has suggested the addition of another notable actor in the upcoming Marvel project 'Doctor Strange.' It has been rumored that 'True Detective' actress Rachel McAdams has been offered a female lead role in the live action film.
"According to my sourcing here in Los Angeles, the rumor I'm hearing is that Rachel McAdams, currently starring in the second season of True Detective, has been offered the female lead in Marvel's upcoming Doctor Strange. Scott Derrickson is directing the film based on the screenplay by Jon Sphaits. Benedict Cumberbatch is headlining as the Sorcerer Supreme," writes Heroic Hollywood.
The specific role she's been offered to play hasn't yet been disclosed although it has been speculated that she could possibly portray Clea, Dr. Strange's love interest in the comics. Due to the character's importance to the series, this could lock McAdams into a long-running contract with the studio as she'd have to appear in possible sequels and spin-offs.
"If we're taking guesses, though, I would say it's gotta be Clea, Strange's girlfriend, student and sorcerer from the Dark Dimension. Clea is the most famous and standardized of Strange's love interests and companions, and her story - she's the niece of the Dread Dormammu, and she eventually becomes ruler of the Dark Dimension - makes her more clearly a modern-style female action hero who can hold her own alongside Strange," writes BirthMoviesDeath.
McAdams would make a fine addition to the confirmed cast of Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme, Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as the villainous Baron Mordo.
The film's synopsis follows:
"Before he met the Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange was an unlikeable egotistical neurosurgeon. Everything changes when a car accident limits Strange's use of his hands, sending him on a maddening quest for a miracle cure. This origin story introduces the magical and mystical realms of the Marvel Cinematic Universe."
'Doctor Strange' drops on November 4, 2016.
