'Doctor Strange' News: Tilda Swinton Speaks On Ancient One Role

Marvel fans couldn't be more excited to finally receive the first live action adaptation of 'Doctor Strange,' and from what we've already heard on its development, it will surely serve to satisfy.

One of the more peculiar casting decisions announced was the character The Ancient One to be played by Tilda Swinton. The character has commonly been portrayed as a male in the comics, so the studio's decision to gender swap him was met with some mixed reactions.

Swinton recently had an interview with Screen Crush where she spoke on her thoughts of the character and what she hopes to bring to it. She states:

"I just really liked the premise of this and the idea of playing this character. I'm a Marvel fan and I think this particular world that Doctor Strange goes into is really, really, really exciting. I'm really interested as both an actor and a fan to see what's done in this particular world. It's all about creativity. It's not about everything exploding at the end. It's about something very different."

The appearance of Doctor Strange in the MCU will bring the idea of magic into the movie universe. The comics have classically dealt with mysticism rather than action-oriented adventures.

She then spoke on the possibility for her character to appear in other Marvel films:

"It's like a family thing. Who knows where one might pop up. I don't know where they'll use me and I don't know that they know, necessarily, even though they seem to know what they're doing for the next decade. I think it's like holding onto the tail of a galloping horse at this point."

'Doctor Strange' is set to premiere on November 4, 2016.
