'Doctor Strange' New Cast News, Rumors: Producers Look to Tap Actor Chiwetel Ejiofor for Role
The highly anticipated "Doctor Strange" movie is in high gear to add some high profile names to its cast.
Benedict Cumberbatch has already been approved to play the titular Sorcerer Supreme role, but there has been talks on Chiwetel Ejiofor being eyed to co-star in the project.
Ejiofor has recently been recognized for his success in the historical movie "12 Years A Slave" and "Serenity."
"Ejiofor, who was nominated for a best actor Oscar for his performance in 12 Years a Slave, already has notched a number of villainous roles on this thespian sash, notably in Joss Whedon's Serenity and Children of Men. He is currently shooting The Martian for Ridley Scott and stars in Z for Zachariah, which will premiere later this month at the Sundance Film Festival," writes The Hollywood Reporter.
It's been said the actor has already been turning down roles and freeing up his schedule to be featured in movie, however it is still no confirmation on what role Ejiofor will be playing.
"Several sources have intoned that Ejiofor is wanted for a villainous role, but some insiders have pooh-poohed that. The villain is likely to be classic bad guy Baron Mordo, a sorcerer's pupil whose next-in-line status is usurped by Strange, thus making him the physician's mortal enemy," writes The Hollywood Reporter.
There is also talks in the actor playing Wong, the Sorcerer's trusted servant adept in martial arts, of course Marvel would have to be okay with the switch of ethnicities from the comics.
Scott Derrickson is directing the project and they've also picked up Daniel Bruhl, although he's also an unconfirmed role.
"Doctor Strange" has a confirmed release date of November 4th, 2016.
