Actor Chiwetel Ejiofor has been announced to star opposite of Benedict Cumberbatch in his debut as Doctor Strange in the upcoming solo film, but it wasn't until today that his role was finally confirmed.

Fans will see Ejiofor portray the role as Baron Mondo, an antagonist in the 'Doctor Strange' comics, appearing for the first time in 'Strange Tales' in 1963.

While the character is primarily a villain in comic book lore, fans can expect the studio to take a slightly more ambiguous take on the character. It's been reported that Baron Mondo's character will be used to represent a number of characters of from the comics.

"Although he's an enemy in the comics, don't look for him to be necessarily a completely villainous character. Rather, he's an amalgamation of characters culled from Doctor Strange's mythology. His isn't the first change-up in the film; Swinton's The Ancient One character is another, as the movie has gender-swapped the Tibetan male sorcerer from the comics. Both Strange and Mordo were mentored by The Ancient One, but Mordo tried to kill his teacher," writes Deadline.

The 'Doctor Strange' solo film will be used to introduce the arrogant surgeon Stephen Strange, a man who lost the use of his hands and discovered the use of magic to restore his ability. Through this, Strange also discovers the world of sorcery and alternate dimensions.

Here's a short excerpt on Ejiofor's character Baron Mondo from Marvel Wiki:

"Mordo began his tutelage under the Ancient One as early as the 1930's, already an adult; residing in the Ancient One's lair brought him reduced aging. The Ancient One realized that Mordo's lust for power made him dangerous but chose to teach him anyway feeling that he could at least keep a watchful eye on him.

"Mordo was immediately resentful of Stephen Strange when he began studying under the Ancient One and magically restrained him from speaking when Strange accidentally walked in on Mordo's plot. The plot failed, Strange became the Ancient One's disciple, and Mordo eventually left."

'Doctor Strange' is scheduled to premiere November 4, 2016.
