'Doctor Strange' Movie 2016 Cast: What We Know So Far
Scott Derrickson's Marvel Comics film "Doctor Strange" is coming to theaters soon and the following are the latest information about its cast members and the characters they play.
Benedict Cumberbatch is set to play Stephen Strange, who is more known as Doctor Strange in Marvel's Cinematic Universe. Also known as the Sorcerer Supreme, Cumberbatch as Strange will introduce the audience to the magical realm of the studio's Cinematic Universe.
Rachel McAdams will play the role of Strange's fellow surgeon. According to Enstarz, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige had previously described McAdam's character as a "lynchpin" to his old life, once he steeped into the role of a sorcerer. He added that the character was someone he connected with at the start and reconnected with and helped anchor his humanity.
Chiwetel Ejiofor is playing Karl Mordo, a former student of the Ancient One. As compared to the character's version in the comic book, Mordo is not a total villain. According to Ejiofor's previous interviews, Mordo was a very complex character that he did not think could be nailed down either way. The actor also described the character's connection to the Ancient One as long, intense, very deep, and very connected.
Tilda Swinton will play the Ancient One, Strange's mentor. The Ancient One trains pupils to be the next Sorcerer Supreme. According to Feige, the charcters was looked as a mantle more than a specific person, allowing the studio to reconsider the gender of the character from male to female. Marvel Studio's head added that there had been several versions of the character, despite its existence for five hundred years.
Mads Mikkelsen is the big bad of Derrickson's "Doctor Strange," according to previous reports. As per Enstarz, Mikkelsen was a sorcerer who broke off into his own sect from the Ancient One and Feige said that the character believed that the Ancient One was just protecting her power base and that the world might be better of if some of such power had been allowed to go through.
Michael Stulhbarg will play Nicodemus West, Strange's rival, while Amy Landecker's role is yet to be revealed. Scott Adkins' role is also unknown; however, rumors said that the actor could play the role of Wong, Strange's servant in the United States, as per Cinema Blend.
Derrickson's "Doctor Strange" follows the Strange, a neurosurgeon whose hands' fine motor skills faded following an accident. He meets the Ancient One, a master magician who mentors him to become the Sorcerer Supreme and use the mystic arts to save the world from forces of evil.
Derrickson at the helm of the film while Jon Spaights, Thomas Dean Donnelly, Steve Ditko, and Joshuan Oppenheimer are on board to pen the screenplay. Broussard, D'Esposito, Stan Lee, and Victoria Alonso, will co-produce the film, among others.
Derrickson's "Doctor Strange" is set to hit theaters in the United States on Nov. 4, 2016.
