Joe Jonas has truly broken away from the shadow of the Jonas Brothers and formed a new band called DNCE. The band introduced their fun new vibe to the world on Sept. 11, and then immediately followed it up with their debut single Cake By The Ocean, released to Z100 on Sept. 14.

The catchy track puts listeners in mind of a more mature version of a Jonas Brothers track. Pair that with singable lyrics such as those below and a hit is born.

Joe, 26, features as lead vocals in DNCE.

Cole Whittle, ex-bass player of Semi Precious Weapons and a good friend of Joe's, plays bass.

Jin Joo, another of Joe's friends and ex-guitarist for Charli XCX, is the female component of DNCE and Joe's long-time friend (and ex-drummer for the Jonas Brothers) Jack Lawless rounds out the band.

Joe had tried to launch a solo career with Fast life after the Jonas Brothers split in 2011, but it failed to take off.

The brothers attempted to reunite in 2012, but the efforts didn't pay off and they announced that they would split again even before they had toured together.

Joe, the second brother of the trio, tried his hand at acting for a while, but realised that music was where his heart was.

As for the other Jonas brothers, Nick has had the most luck breaking into the solo artist scene and he now has a highly successful career.

Kevin has opted to play the part of family man with wife Danielle Jonas.
