'Divergent: Allegiant Part 1' News: Series Installment Begins Filming in Atlanta

Last Thursday, Lionsgate made an announcement which revealed that principal photography for the film adaptation of The Divergent Series: Allegiant: Part 1, has begun in Atlanta.

The move is the third in the Divergent action adventure film franchise, which stars Golden Globe nominated actress, Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Academy Award winning actress Octavia Spencer, and Academy Award nominated actress, Naomi Watts.

The cast will have a new addition, Jeff Daniels, who has been nominated for a Golden Globe.

Several cast members will also be returning, including Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Keiynan Lonsdale and Johnny Weston.

Also reprising their roles will be Mekhi Phifer and Daniel Dae Kim. Other new castmembers include Nadia Hilker and Bill Skaarsgard.

The movie is based on the bestselling novel by Veronica Roth, and the film is being directed by Robert Schwentke from a screenplay written by Noah Oppenheim, Adam Cooper, Bill Collage and Stephen Chbosky.

In the movie, Tris (Shailene Woodley) must escape beyond the wall that surrounds Chicago in order to finally discover the truth about what is behind it. She takes Four (Theo James) along with her.

Book sales of the Divergent trilogy have skyrocketed to over 34 million copies across the globe, which is 17 million more than were sold when the book was released in March of 2014.

The Divergent Series: Allegiant: Part 2, the fourth film in the series, can be expected in theaters for March 24th, 2017. Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment are overseeing the production of the project.

Fans can expect The Divergent Series: Allegiant: Part 1 to be in theaters in North America on Friday, March 18, 2016.
