Detroit Pistons NBA 2015 News: Pistons Acquire Ilyasova from Milwaukee Bucks
The Detroit Pistons and the Milwaukee Bucks agreed to a deal with seemingly different intentions when the Pistons acquired Ersan Ilyasova for Caron Butler and Shawne Williams.
Ilyasova, who was under contract with the Bucks thorugh the 2016-2017 season, provides the Pistons with some much needed shooting to their frontcourt, who suffered from not having enough spacing, especially when they had Josh Smith, Andre Drummond, and Greg Monroe all playing at the same time.
"Not only is (Ilyasova) a proficient three-point shooter that can stretch the floor, he is a high-energy, hard-playing guy who fits extremely well with how we want to play," Van Gundy said, who had his most successful coaching season when he led the Orlando Magic to Finals with Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu"”a pair of sweet shooting forwards.
Ilyasova averaged 10.7 points and six rebounds in 453 career games with the Bucks, while shooting 37 percent from deep.
The Bucks for their part get back Butler, who played for them after being acquired through a trade in the 2013-2014 season. It's unlikely Butler and Williams can offer Milwaukee anything on the court, but they do bring a couple of expiring contracts on the table.
The Bucks will be looking to bring back starting shooting guard Khris Middleton, who will become a restricted free agent in the offseason. They overachieved in their first season under coach Jason Kidd, and might want to add some talent to the young core of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jabari Parker, and Michael Carter-Williams.
Milwaukee had the best turnaround in the league last season when they came from being the worst team in the league with just 15 wins the season before, to the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference, finishing with 41 wins this past season.
They also have the 17th overall selection in the NBA Draft later this month, and may look to add a rebounding forward with the loss of both Ilyasova and the estranged Larry Sanders.
