Since the first season of the hit Korean drama series "Descendants of the Sun" concluded, fans have always looked forward to its follow-up season. The series was such a huge success that its lead stars, Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo, rose to fame not just in Asia but even in America and Europe.  

While fans are hopeful that "Descendants of the Sun" season 2 will happen in the near future, recent reports suggest that the second season will not happen anymore.

According to reports, the follow-up to the first series has already been cancelled due to the unavailability of its lead stars.

After the first season wrapped up, Song Joong Ki has been busy with other big projects. Currently, the Hallyu star is filming for his upcoming film, "Battleship Island." His co-lead star, Song Hye Kyo, is also busy with modelling projects in and out of Korea. Recently, the actress was reportedly in Europe for some modeling engagements.

Due to schedule conflicts, it is highly likely that "Descendants of the Sun" season 2 will not happen anymore. If it does, its original lead stars might no longer reprise their roles so the production might bring new actors on board for the second installment.

"Descendants of the Sun" is a romantic KBS series that revolves around a soldier who fell in love with a female doctor. In the series, Song Joong Ki played Captain Yoo Shi Jin, while Song Hye Kyo played Dr. Kang Mo-Yeon. Joong Ki and Hye Kyo are rumored to be dating each other in real life.
