Denver Nuggets NBA 2015 News: Ty Lawson to Enter Rehab

Denver Nuggets points guard Ty Lawson will be undergoing alcohol rehab following his second DUI arrest in six months. A judge ruled that the troubled guard wouldn't be facing DUI charges in California and Colorado until Lawson completes a 30-day residential treatment program, ESPN reports.

The report notes that Lawson attended a pretrial hearing Friday in Denver, which saw his Lawyer say that the 27-year-old will would be entering treatment Saturday at Cliffside Malibu"”a celebrity rehabilitation center that treats addiction and psychiatric issues.

"We will be handling the personal needs of the defendant," Lawson's lawyer, Harvey Steinberg said. Now we have a situation that needs to be deal with."

The dynamic point guard was arrested Tuesday in Los Angeles on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was also arrested on the same charges back in January. In 2008, as a member of the North Carolina Tar Heels, Lawson was arrested for underage drinking.

"Ty is going through a rough time right now, but we're all behind him," Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly said. "Ty's a really good person. He's a Nugget, so when one of our guys goes through issues, we support him as a family and everyone stands behind him."

During Friday's hearing, the judge ordered Lawson to use a stationary blood-alcohol monitoring device after his release from the rehabilitation facility. ESPn reports that Denver District Judge Doris Burd said that she could issue a warrant for Lawson's arrest should the guard leave the treatment facility early.

Prior to the incident, a number of teams have reportedly expressed interest in potentially acquiring Lawson, with the list including the Houston Rockets, Detroit Pistons and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Last season, Lawson averaged 15.2 points, 9.6 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game. He has spent his entire career with the Nuggets since being drafted in 2008.
