'Degrassi' News: TeenNick Series Comes to an End After 14 Years on the Air

Degrassi: The Next Generation, the teen drama that has been airing since 2001, will officially be canceled, as confirmed by TeenNick on June 4th.

The series will end with a two week event, which will start with an hour long episode on July 20th and ending with an hour long series finale on July 31st.

The senior vice president and general manager of TeenNick, Nicktoons and Nick Jr., Keith Dawkins, officially confirmed the end of the controversial Canadian series.

"For an incredible 14 seasons, Degrassi has been a groundbreaking show tackling so many important topics that real teens face in their everyday lives," said Dawkins. "In the final episodes on TeenNick and through the hour long special and social activations, we hope to say goodbye in a way that is both fitting to the show and Degrassi's passionate fan base."

Over the years, Degrassi has turned out a lot of young actors who were fated to become big stars.

One of those is rapper, Drake, who is known across the globe now for his musical prowess.

Drake, whose real name is Aubrey Graham, portrayed Jimmy, a basketball star, who ended up in the middle of the series' most dramatic episode, in which a student brought a gun to school and shot Jimmy in the back, paralyzing him from the waist down.

Another star who appeared in the series, was Vampire Diaries star, Nina Dobrev. She played the first teen mother in the show, and had a recurring arc.

90210 star Shenae Grimes, also spent some time walking the halls of Degrassi High in 2004.
