'Deadpool' News: Director Speaks On Plans For Sequel
'Deadpool' is gearing up to be the movie that fans have demanded for so long, and with the current hype around it already, it begs to question the possibility of a sequel.
The Marvel superhero isn't exactly a household name, and along with the movie's R-rating, it could be harder sell to the general public. Despite the outcome, director Tim Miller has already spoken up about his plans for a sequel if it were to happen with Empire.
He references plans for a specific comic book character that hasn't yet received a live-action representation.
"We kind of wanted a straight-man to play against Colossus," Millers says. "We thought about Cannonball, but he would've been a stupid hick character, whereas the guys wrote Negasonic as this deadpan goth teen, which was a great angle. She turned out really well. There aren't really many definitive Deadpool villains, apart from Cable. If we don't put Cable in 'Deadpool 2,' I think we'll be run out of town on a rail."
Cable has been a common partner and semi-adversary to Deadpool for quite some time in the comic book world. There would be nothing that would please fans more than to see these two playing off each other on the big screen.
"Cable and Deadpool were staples of Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza's early "X-Force" run. Deadpool's wacky, out-of-control nature played so well against Cable's tough guy demeanor that it led to a shared title in 2004 and a 50-issue run written by Nicieza. Miller's talk of Cable here seems to confirm that he will not appear in the upcoming "Deadpool" film, although this could be a ruse to keep the character a surprise," writes CBR.
'Deadpool' arrives in theaters on February 12, 2016.
